"Elbert N. Wood of Fairfield entered into Heaven on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008. He was born March 19, 1937, to Luther and Elizabeth Wood in Aransas Pass, Texas. Elbert proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired with 20 years of service in the United States Air Force Reserve. A parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, he also served as a Knight of Columbus.
"He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Paula of Fairfield; children, Maria Sanford (husband, David Sanford), Shanti Varaitch, Sandra Wells (husband, John Wells), Joseph Wood (wife, Teri Wood) and Jennifer Wood; grandchildren, Christopher Durham, Corina Durham, A1C Vernique Wells Joseph (husband, A1C Brian Joseph II), Jessica Varaitch, Samantha Wells, Jacob Wood and Melody Wood; great-grandson, Nicholas Durham; sisters, Margie and Lettie May; and brothers, Daniel and Bernard.
"Viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Private internment will be held at Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon.
