"The memorial service for Vernon Carroll Wood will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Central Point Masonic Lodge #135 A.F. and A.M. Chap. William Hare of the Ashland Masonic Lodge will officiate. Mr. Wood, 71, of Medford, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.
"He was born on Sept. 12, 1930, in Senton, Texas, son of Luther and Elizabeth Wood. On Feb. 22, 1947, in Yuma, Ariz., he married Loretta Joyce, who preceded him in death. In 1989, he married Betty, who preceded him in death in 1997. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1992 from Olivehurst, California.
"Mr. Wood worked as a master craftsman of the trades, and was given an honorary doctorate for metallurgy from the University of California at Berkeley. He was a member and past master of the Central Point Masonic Lodge #135 A.F. and A.M., and also was a member of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
"Survivors include a son, Vernon Michael, Granite Bay, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Meek and Judy Trujillo, both of Richmond, Calif.; four brothers, Rufus, Ala., Elbert, Fairfield, Calif., (Arthur) Daniel, Seattle, and Bernard, San Bernardino, Calif.; two sisters, Lettie Mae Edwards, Tacoma, Wash., and Margie Sills, Salem; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two wives, two sisters and one brother.
