"William Riley Cantrell was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, July 28, 1809, and was a small boy when his parents moved over the mountains into Tennessee. Married Constance Magness, daughter of Perry G. and Mary Cantrell Magness, May 31, 1830. She was born November 15, 1815; united with the Predestinarian Baptist Church at old Bildad in 1850 and was a faithful and consistent member there until her death, a period of fifty-four years, as she died August 18, 1904. He died February 5, 1885.

"One of the older members of the Cantrell in Tennessee is our authority for saying that: "All the older Cantrells who went from the Carolinas into Tennessee were Baptists, and as there were then, as well as today, several kinds of Baptists, these were designated as 'Old Baptists,' 'Two Seed Baptists,' and later as 'Predestinarian Baptists.'"
