Started his career in the Bank of NSW at Orange. Was later transferedto NZ. For health reasons he retired from the bank and took land in Geraldine, South Cantebury. He eventually retired from farming and did accountancy work. Died at his home Nairambla, Geraldine in 11 Oct 1916
