They were the parents of eight children, five girls and three boys. One of them, James, is buried beside them.
The other children were daughters Mrs. Lola Briggs, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Bessie Doan, Grand Island, Nebraska; Mrs. Della Larson, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Fern Benscoter, and Esther Kates of Glenwood; and sons were John of Atlantic, Iowa; and Marion Kates of Glenwood. (Locations given were from their father's obituary in 1931.)
