Rachel was born in New Jersey according to the 1880 census. She was the daughter of Jacob Kidney and Catherine Jacobusz. Her parents are buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio. She died at her daughter's home, Martha Pond, in Morrow Co., Ohio in 1880. She has a sister named Sarah (Kidney) Blackney-Jacobs. Sarah's first husband was Edgar Clark Blackney, Sr. (they one son together, Edgar, Jr.). Edgar, Sr. died young and is buried in Connecticut. Sarah was remarried to Asher M. Jacobs in Ohio and they later moved to Holt Co., Missouri. She died there and Asher moved back to Columbus, Ohio and remarried. Asher is buried next to Sarah's parents in Columbus, Ohio (Greenlawn Cemetery) in the Kidney family section.
