Edward Boteler III was left in the charge of Thomas Lingan, the boy'smaternal uncle, to be sent to England when both of his parents died.This was not done, and he remained in lower Maryland, marryingPriscilla Lingan, an aunt of the Revolutionary Officer, WilliamMacCubbin Lingan. Captain Henry Boteler was his only son. Edward IIImarried his first cousin Priscilla MacCubbin Lingan. Edward's mother,Anne Lingan, and Priscilla's father, Thomas Lingan were brother andsister.
