Alta Lee White Spann age 80 of Benton, died February 13, 2007 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born on December 16, 1927 in Benton, Arkansas, to the late Elbert and Norene White. Mrs. Spann was retired from J. C. Penny. She and her husband, Hubert, lived in Jackson, Tennessee for 30 years. She was an active member of West Jackson Baptist Church where she and her husband were directors of the youth Sunday School. On retiring, they moved back to Benton where she was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Norene White and four brothers: Leon White, Glendle White, Jimmy White and Winfred White, and a great granddaughter, Hope Christine Spann.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hubert Spann of Benton, a daughter, Carol Spann of Rockwall, Texas, a son, Greg Spann and wife, Frances of Benton, two grandchildren, Rev. Bert Spann and wife Amanda, of Saline, Michigan, Deanna Spann of Benton, one great grandchild, Cole Spann of Saline Michigan, two sisters, Helen Watts of Benton, and husband Bill, and Patsy Jenkins of Malvern, and husband Leon, one brother, Howard White of Fairview and wife Loretta. She had numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a very devoted wife, Loving mother, and caring grandmother. She was a life long friend to her sisters and brothers. She touched the lives of many people. She was a wonderful Christian who showed many acts of kindness and generosity.
Services will be at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Benton, Arkansas on Friday February 16, 2007 with visitation on Thursday night February 15th at Ashby Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be at New Rosemont Cemetery. Ministers will be Rev. Bert Spann and Dr. Rick Grant.
Pallbearers, Joe Wishard, Manual Montalvo, Don White, Shawn White, Tony Jenkins, Gaylon Boatwright. Honorary Pallbearers: Jeff Watts and David Watts.
Memorials may be made to Bibles for Believers in Africa through First Baptist Church in Benton or the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
