Vernon “Pop" E. Walton. 55, of 1739 S. Sultana Ave. died Sunday in Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Fontana. Mr. Walton was born in Salt Lake City. Utah. He was a resident of Ontario for 17 years, coming here [to Ontario, San Bernardino County, California] from Utah.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ontario. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was employed at the main post office in Ontario and had been a letter carrier for 22 years. He was a ham radio operator. He is survived by his widow Marjorie; five daughters, Mrs. Margaret Hawkins of Ontario. Mrs. Nancy Valdez of Chino. Mrs. Dalyse Kilhoffer of Moore, Okla.. Mrs. DiAnn Dooley of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Alison Neff of Taylor. Ariz.; five sons, Joe Hawkins of Ontario, Donald Gene, Travis and Warner Walton, all of Snowflake, Ariz., and Duane Walton of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother, Mrs. Pearl Walton of West Covina; a twin brother, Vaughn of West Covina, and another brother. Ronald Ellenburg of Washington; and 14 grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Richardson-Peterson Mortuary with burial to follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
