Ray Tilman "R. T." Buckelew, 89, of Laurel, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Covington County Hospital in Collins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Jones County, with burial in the church cemetery. The Revs. Hershel Bragg and Roy Crouch will officiate. He was retired from the maintenance department at Jones County Junior College. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Okinawa during World War II. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and the Ellisville American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Walton and Effie Allred Buckelew; two brothers, Harmon Buckelew and Frank Buckelew; and three sisters, Mildred Parker, Mary Holifield and Sudie Mae Parker. He is survived by his wife, Amorita Shepperd Buckelew of Laurel; a son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Lynda Buckelew of Moss Point; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Mitchell Blakeney of Laurel; a brother, Billy N. Buckelew of Laurel; grandchildren, Kimie Young and her husband, Michael Young, Barry Buckelew and his wife, Candi Buckelew, Stephen Blakeney, Eric Blakeney and his wife, Jackie Blakeney, and Kali Blakeney; and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Billy Rowell, Oliver Smith, Norman Hopkins, Lacon Sheppard, Billy Chandler, Jimmy Parker, Herman Holifield and Mike Chandler. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund. The body will be placed in the church at 9 a.m. Friday. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. today, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.
