Amorita S. Buckelew, 96, of Ellisville died Monday, August 13, 2012 at Magnolia Gardens in Ellisville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Rev. Roy Crouch and Rev. Hershel Bragg will officiate.
Mrs. Buckelew worked as activities and social director at Jones County Rest Home prior to retirement and she was an active member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she worked in Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. She loved crocheting and was also active in volunteer work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray T. "R. T." Buckelew; grandson, Stephen Blakeney; brothers, L. E. Shepperd, Jr. and Howard Shepperd; sisters, Devone Rowell, Cecile Smith and Omega Holifield.
Survivors include son, Calvin L. Buckelew and wife Lynda of Spanish Fort, Alabama; daughter, Carolyn A. Blakeney and husband Mitchell of Laurel; grandchildren, Kimie Young and husband Mike, Barry Buckelew and fiancée Heidi, Eric Blakeney and wife Jackie, and Kali Blakeney; granddaughter-in-law, Marilyn Blakeney; great grandchildren, Jacob Buckelew, Jordon Young, Elizabeth Blakeney, Austin Barnett and Jacob Wells; brother, Stanley Shepperd and wife Dorothy of Ellisville; sisters, Doris Hopkins of Ellisville, Clementine Vice and husband Norman of Ellisville and Bonnie Chandler of Laurel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Billy Chandler, George Beaty, Robert Barnes, Jarred Barnes, J. B. Moss and Dewayne Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School Class and her neighbors.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 1743 Highway 29 North, Ellisville, MS 34937 or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 until 8 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2012 at Memory Chapel of Laurel which is in charge of the arrangements.
