TUSCALOOSA | Kathryn (Kate) Mathews Hutchins, age 96, died January 2, 2004, at her residence. Services will be held Monday, January 5, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel. Rev. Tim Plant of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
Survivors include son Ozero Hayes Hutchins, Jr., sister, Adel Dowdy, grandchildren, Troy G. Hutchins, Ozero Hayes Hutchins III, Heather M. Osburn, and great granddaughter, Gracie Osburn.
She was born in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama January 6, 1907. Graduated from Tuscaloosa County High, and the University of Alabama with a Masters degree in elementary education. Taught elementary education in Tuscaloosa County and Tuscaloosa City School Systems. Retired in 1967 from Arcadia Elementary with 42 years in the Tuscaloosa School System. Kate was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Group, Alabama Education Assn., and Calvary Baptist Church.
