Ruth P. McKellep, a long time resident of this area, passed away peacefully on the 1st of July, 2011 at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, MN.
Ruth was born in Wadena to Roy and Ella (Chase) Zosel on March 11, 1921. She was one of 6 children. She grew up and attended school in Wadena, graduating in 1939.
On March 15, 1941 Ruth married Robert (Stan) McKellep of Hewitt, MN. Ruth worked as a bookkeeper much of her life, but raising her family was what she loved the most. She was very talented with hand work, including knitting, sewing, cross stitch, and she loved to play bingo. She loved her family and was always happy when she could spend time with them. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hewitt, MN, where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth loved to travel and often visited her daughter in California and Arizona.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Ella Zosel; baby daughter Jane McKellep and sons Thomas McKellep and Phillip McKellep; sisters Elizabeth Seaton, Joyce Hess, Helen Holderbach; Donna Smith and her brother, William Zosel. She is survived by her husband Stan; son Robert (Susan) McKellep of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughter Kathy (Bud) Lathrop of Prescott, Arizona; son Scott (Bonita) McKellep; daughter-in-law Yvonne McKellep of Wadena and daughter-in-law Claudia Sue of Sun City, California. Ruth and Stan have 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She was a loving and generous person. She will be remembered for many things, among them her beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Hewitt, MN. on August 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at the Wadena Cemetery following the service.
