James N. Ivory

Stockton Daily Argus, February 1, 1860. "Serious Accident-- A lad by name of James Ivory, aged about 13 years, accidentally shot himself on Monday, while handling a 5-shooter. He had borrowed the pistol from a boy with whom he was an associate, and while examining the lock, the pistol being pointed towards him, it was discharged, the ball taking effect under the right jaw, about midway between the chin and the ear. Drs. Bateman and Ryer endeavored to discover the course of the ball without success. The lad will probably recover."

April 1869 James marries Isabel (Belle) Work, age 18.

Belle dies in 1872.

In this census James has married Annie and is living on Lafayette Street in Stockton. He is a blacksmith with an assistant so he probably was trying to make a go of his father's blacksmith shop.

1900 U. S. Census James Ivory was a boarder at (probably Chinese Camp) Toulemne township and County. He was a widower born Feb. 1849 in Michigan, a musician by trade.

No Ivory children other than James' nieces are listed in Tuolumne County in any vital records.
