Individual Details
Joe Kenneth Eubanks
(14 Feb 1929 - 30 Mar 2000)
Dad was born in Old Mobeetie, Texas, the son of John and Mattie Love Eubanks. As the tenth of eleven children, he joined the other Eubanks kids in picking crops and working the cotton fields. At 16 Dad enlisted in the Marine Corps, which took him to Philadelphia where he met and fell in love with our mother, Lena Trerotola. They married and had four children, Theresa, Joe, Lynn and Micael. They started family life in California, spent time in Texas, and eventually settled in Philadelphia. Dad started as a truck driver, then a TV repairman, but made his career as a electronic technician and Chief Inspector at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.
Dad was a very special person. Everyone loved him, and he seldom had an unkind word for anyone. Dad has great sense of humor. We kids remember his "long tall Texas stories" told in his deep soft Texan voice. He insisted he was not exaggerating about walking 10 miles in a blizzard to school (and that was just to catch the bus). He loved to tell us about the bull that chased him up a tree when he was a amall boy. Dad said he took off all his clothes one piece at a time along with his shoes and threw them at the bull to frighten him away. It didn't work, and he wound up in the 'til after dark. Between his car accidents, carless smoking adventures, and right down to hs false death report, we became convinced Dad had nine lives.
We have many happy memories of Dad. We loved playing Scabble with him, and will never forget his insistece that "biocomet" was a real word. We remember dad's patience, his kindness and his gentle ways.
In his later years dad took great delight in attractin wild birds to his property. Just this past winter he was so excited to count 18 cardinals on his front porch all at the same time.
Dad loved his family and we loved him. We will miss him dearly, and will cherish him in our hearts forever.
