Sarah S. Wilder

"Pioneer Families and History of Lapeer County" page 109. Sarah was dau. of Thomas Wilder who with his father and 4 brothers left England on the same boat. Thomas was a weaver of fine silk and his wife a lacemaker.[New York ships passenger records has the Wilder family arriving on the Garrick 19 May 1848 out of Liverpool. 14 Wilders are listed. William the head of the family was a minister. Thomas and his four brothers were glovemakers. The family is from Kegworth heading to Michigan.]
1860 Sarah lives in Oxford, Oakland County MI with a Humphrey family. She is 17. Her own family lives in Brandon township. These are the only "Wilders" in Michigan.
John Potter was William D. Potter and Electa Doud's son, as a "John" of the correct age lived with them in Elba in 1850. By 1860 John had left home. John S. enlisted at Elba (Lapeer Co. Michigan) in the 22 Infantry Company F. Aug 8, 1862 for three years. He was age 24. He was taken prisoner at Chckamauga, Georgia Sept. 20, 1863. He died in prison at Richmond, Virginia March 18, 1864.
Sarah married Rufus Ivory two years later on the 8 March 1866.
1910 Hadley township. Sarah is a widow with her daughter Una and her husband Leslie Bartenfelder living in Sarah's household.
1930 Hadley village Sarah still lives with her daughter Una and her husband. Sarah says she immigrated from England in 1848. She was 19 years old at the time of her first marriage [to John S. Potter].
