W. G. Bud Stephens
(3 Dec 1880 - 13 Nov 1908)
"The LaFayette Sun" - November 18, 1908:
Killing at Wadley.
News has been received here of a serious difficulty which occurred at Wadley last Friday afternoon. Messrs. Bud and Morgan Stephens, of near Milltown, became engaged in a difficulty with Jim Clegg, the marshal, of Wadley, and Bud Stephens was shot and instantly killed, Morgan Stephens was seriously wounded, and the marshal was cut in several places, and it was at first thought that his wounds would prove fatal, but later reports say he will recover.

November 25, 1908: In Memoriam.
There is a reaper whose name is Death,
And with his sickle keen,
He reaps the bearded grain at the breath,
And the flowers that grow between.
On the 13th day of November this grim reaper came into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stevens, and took from them their son, Will.
It was my pleasure to know him personally as a friend in school, social and home life. As a friend, he was kind and true, loyal to the last degree, ever ready to lend a helping hand to the sick and afflicted, spreading sunshine over many a rough pathway.
As a son and brother he was a fair sample of that devoted love, which should exist in every home, ever trying to make lighter the burdens of his mother and in various ways, showing his affection for her. What better could be said of a boy?
I, as a friend, will ever deplore his sad death, and extend my heart-felt sympathy to the bereaved family.
To the parents I would say, look to God, our surest comforter in sorrow. To the brothers, resolve in your own hearts to meet him where sorrow never comes, then with eyes undimmed by tears, we’ll clearly see and understand what now seems so sad.
