J. W. Stephens Dies.
On July 12th, 1905, all that was mortal of J. W. Stephens ceased to be. Walter was a son of Mr. and Mrs. I. H. Stephens, of Milltown, Alabama. Death is always sad. It never comes to the human family without having vacant chairs, aching lives, blasted hopes and lonely lives, but in this case the conditions were touchingly pathetic. The young man had just passed his thirty-second summer and stood at the threshold of life, hopeful, industrious and eager for the conflict.
For a number of years, he had been a sufferer, but so patiently and cheerfully did he endure his afflictions that none same his most intimate friends ever suspected that he was indisposed. During the last two years of his life was an agony, but not a word of complaint escaped his lips.
All that physicians, loved one and friends could do was done for him, but without avail. For months before the end came, it was seen that death was inevitable. He was laid to rest in New Hope cemetery near the place where he spent his childhood das.
He was reared in Chambers County, Alabama, and spent several years in the West, returning home to spent the last four months of his life with his parents and loved ones. I commend the devoted father, loving mother, and all the bereaved ones to the tender keeping of God until that blest time when he shall wipe our tears away.

Abanda - The Woodmen of the World Camp at Milltown met at New Hope Cemetery on the first Sunday in honor of their brother Woodman, Mr. J. W. Stevens and had services according to their order and decorated his grave with beautiful flowers. The occasion was simply grand. They will meet on the 4th day of July in the afternoon at Milltown Cemetery in honor of Mr. James Foster, another brother Woodman.
