Transcribed from a copy of the Norwalk Weekly Reflector, dated 11 July 1870, page 3 column 3:
Died In Norwalk, July 3, 1870, at the residence of his son-in-law, E. Ivory, Mr. JAMES WELLS, aged 78 years.
The deceased came to this county in 1826, and consequently was one of the early pioneers. He served as a soldier in the war of 1812.
Notes: Need to locate James’ service records from the War of 1812; 16 Dec 2011 checked Ancestry and Fold 3. One possible from Ancestry: Soldier: Wells, James, Jr. S.O. 4774; S.C. 2436 [do not know what S.O. or S.C. mean] Service: Pvt in Capt Noah Terry’s Co. N.Y. Militia; more research is needed.
