I tried to take a look at your matching DNA segments and did find that the segment on chromosome 16 also matches A833262 Timothy Riley who is a descendant of John Turbeville Samford. He is Triley9191 on Ancestry.

This is DNA evidence that John Turbeville Samford and my ancestor, Nancy Samford, share a common ancestor. Family Search Family Tree has a John "Troublefield" Sanford's [K46K-PV5] parents as Thomas Stanford [LVV3-8FJ] and Martha Brown [LKG9-JY6].

I also share DNA with Jerry (presumably Samford) DNA kit T983665, who descends from William J. Samford and Barbara Rebecca Snider. Thus, William J. Samford, Nancy Samford, and John T. Samford must all have the same parents.

Hi Terry
The John T Sanford line has been corrupted. He was not married to Elizabeth Smith, she was married to John Standford. Someone researching the Samfords found this John Standford on a Texas 1860 census and confused the two entered him into their Ancestry tree others picked it up as an Ancestry hint. My John T Sanford was in Jackson Parish LA in 1860 (not Texas) and the Winn Parish LA census in 1870. I have family members that have copied John Standford and Elizabeth Smith into their trees and they show Thomas Standford and Martha Brown as his parents, so the incorrect information goes forward into dna matches - John T(roublefieId) Sanford and Elizabeth MNU are a different couple. The last name Turbeville consensus is from d’Uberville also got changed sometimes to Troublefield. There is not any proof that John T Sanford’s middle name was Troublefield, though there was some family history that it could have been. I don’t use Family Search all that much as I usually have a subscription to Ancestry, but their records intertwine so they have mixed up John Stanford and John T Sanford.
I have over 200 dna matches to Lavinia Turbeville through all of her children’s descendents. I also match Nancy Samford’s children including your ancestor’s siblings. If you wish I would be glad to make up a list of the DNA matches I show matching to you off of Ancestry.
I know this is confusing, but unfortunately people take Ancestry”s hints as gospel rather than hints. The John Standford tree info was probably entered into Ancestry about 2010. I didn’t put ours in until DNA test in early 2015. The software just slapped the two families together as one.

"My records show that Evan had an older sister, Anna Priscilla, and an older brother, William D. Evan's younger siblings were: Elijah R., Jeptha, Moses, and Barbara."
Rex replied on 2 March 2024:
Your list of the siblings of your great-great grandfather, Evan A. Sanford, is surely more accurate than those at FamilySearch, especially as some of them there have no sources attached. The six doubtful siblings that are not in your list include Arabella (born 1821), Martha Jane (1824), William R. (1830), George W. (1833), James Jassther (1835), and David (1836). There is an 1860 census source attached to Arabella, but a closer look at that shows that FamilySearch indicates her parents are John Richard Samford (1790) & Elizabeth Ridaught (1793), both from South Carolina. This couple has probably been confused by someone with your GGG grandparents John Turbeville Samford & Elizabeth Smith, also from South Carolina. Among Arabella’s siblings are James and David, so they could be three of the six siblings incorrectly assigned to your family. As for the others, the only visible source for Martha Jane herself is a burial at Find-a-Grave that appears to be mistaken for that of a different person: Martha Jane Rose. William R. has no sources and can be dismissed because there is another William already in this family. No parents would give two sons the same name unless the first had died. Finally, George W. has sources, but they do not name his parents, and they state that he was born in Tennessee, where John Turbeville Samford & Elizabeth Smith never lived. I have not yet found any DNA matches with descendants of the six doubtful siblings, but I do have known matches with descendants of William D., Evan A., and Moses. I have deleted Arabella, William R., James Jassther, and David Sanford from my tree.
Elijah R. and Jephta are not listed by FamilySearch among the children of John Turbeville Samford & Elizabeth Smith. What information do you have about them?
