Individual Details
Anna Carolyn McKinney
(24 Apr 1808 - 13 Sep 1834)
Anna Carolyn McKinney Sloan was the daughter of Elizabeth L. Coleman and Collin McKinney. Anna Carolyn was the second wife of James Sloan. They married January 22, 1829 and her father performed the ceremony. Anna and James had 4 children before Anna died in childbirth. Ashley L. Sloan, son of Anna and James was born abt. 1830 and died abt. 1862. He was an early postmaster at Okolona. He may be buried in the Sloan Cemetery but there is no tombstone. A daughter Mary Anna married James M. Browning Oct. 16, 1851 in Clark County. The Browning family lived in Ouachita County, Arkansas.
There is no tombstone in the Sloan Cemetery for Anna Carolyn. One month after her death James wrote a letter to the McKinney family telling them about her death, and I have a copy of that letter. We know from the 1830, 1840, 1850 and 1860 Clark County census that James and his family were settled in the South Fork Township in the Sloan house that was built across the road from the Sloan Cemetery.
