Oakley D. Bertram, son of Andrew J. and Theresa Bertram, was born February 26, 1885 and departed this life August 2, 1961, being 76 years, 5 months and 1 week of age.
On March 7, 1909, he was united in marriage to Laura Cash, who survives him. To this union were born 2 children, Dibrell Bertram of Mt. Carmel, Illinois and Mrs. Ina Sloan of Monticello. A granddaughter, Frances Walker, was raised from infancy in the home. All survive him. Also surviving are 6 other grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.
He professed faith in Christ at an early age, and became a member of the Baptist Church. He lived a devoted Christian life, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello at his death.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, August 5, at the Central Union Separate Baptist Church at Susie, Kentucky with Bro. Isaac Hucaby and Bro. Joseph Nickel officiating. Music was provided by Elder and Mrs. Roger L. Popplewell of Russell Springs, Ky. Active pall-bearers were Hiram Upchurch, Jr., Lyle Cross, Richard Bell, James Cross, Jack Huffaker, and Perry Brammer. Honorary pallbearers were J. W. Marsh, Clarence Brammer, Dutch Huffaker, and Chas. Ragan.
The Richard R. Lee funeral home was in charge of arrangements, with interment in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
