Individual Details

Sarah Clayden

(1811 - 8 Apr 1859)

Sarah Clayden was born in Great Milton, Oxfordshire, England and married Edmund Rolfe on January 17, 1831 at Great Milton. They immigrated to Waterford, Oakland Co., Michigan via Detroit, Michigan in 1852 with their family and took up farming in Maple Grove Township, Saginaw Co., Michigan. Sarah died at Maple Grove and was said to be buried in the Flushing Cemetery at Flushing, Genesse Co., Michigan. She was the mother of George, Thomas, Edmund, Ann, Maria, Benjamin, Elizabeth (Betsey), William, Isaac, Phillip, Martha.

For a short time my records became under the possession of someone else, who went thru and changed many of my files. This non-family member considered herself an authority on MY family. Family records, probably the family bible of daughter Ann Rolfe Foster clearly stated that Sarah Clayden Rolfe was buried in Flushing Cem., Flushing, Genesee Co., which stands to reason since she had family in Flushing at the time of her death and probably no established cemetery in Maple Grove at the time, which was before the 1860 census. It stands to reason that considering the time frame etc., that there would be no records, WOW, great surprise.... and possibly no marker, do to time and mother nature. is unexceptable and Sarah Clayden is going back to Flushing Cem., until someone can convince ME her 3rd great granddaughter that she does not belong there.--Old Homestead; Martha Landers
