June Beatrice Budden

(14 Jun 1920 - 6 Nov 2015)

Beatrice, 95, (Keast) formerly of Lansing, died at Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs, Michigan in the early morning of Friday, November 6, 2015. June was born on Flag Day, to Ethel M. (Lundy) Budden and Victor C. Budden, the oldest of 6 children.
She was a proud 1938 graduate of Eastern High School. She married Harry Keast on August 17, 1940 in her mother-in-law’s living room on S. Pennsylvania Street.
They had three children, Harry Robert (Beth) Keast, of Everett, Washington, John A. (Adele) Keast of Lansing, and Mary Beth (Kurt) Spanburg of Harbor Springs, all who survive her.
June and Harry built one of the first homes in Bretton Woods subdivision with June and Harry Robert hand drilling each hard wood floor plank. They also built two cottages, one on Lake George and one on Windover Lake where every summer weekend was spent. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage with Harry dying in 1978.
June would later meet Donald C. Gordon at the Lake George Senior Center in Clare County and married him on May 9, 1987 at St. Athanasius Church in Harrison, Michigan. They traveled by tour bus with other seniors and enjoyed life at Windover Lake and church activities for their 6 years together. Don died in 1993.
June’s first job was making sodas at Walgreen’s in downtown Lansing. She also worked as a bookkeeper, and as a school secretary at Bretton Woods Learning Center and Colt Elementary School in the Waverly School District. She was active in cub scouts and brownies with her children as well as being a Sunday school teacher at Bretton Woods Covenant Church. She was a member of the Covenant Woman and served as program chair for many years.
On one occasion, a speaker she had scheduled was unable to present their program due to illness, so June went to the library and checked out books about birds and did the presentation herself. Her program was so well received; she became the “bird expert?and spoke at many subsequent gatherings.
As a member of the neighborhood Garden Club, she sold flowering crab trees to almost every home in Bretton Woods, which can still be appreciated each spring when the bright pink blooms grace so many yards.
She was a long-time resident of Lansing, having lived there for 88 years prior to moving to Harbor Springs to live with her daughter.
June was an expert seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting lace to hem tablecloths, and crocheting beaded necklaces.
She was an Eaton County delegate to the Republican Party Michigan caucuses for many years.
Her favorite pastimes were making cookies and soup for neighbors, reading, and being with her family. She also enjoyed music, especially the old church hymns and other charitable activities.
She is survived by 7 grandchildren, Jeremy, Ryan, Chad, Nate, Andrew, Matt and Sara; 9 great grand children; her youngest sister, Jan Budden of Lansing; sister-in-law, Merna Budden of East Lansing; step sons, Aaron and Scott Straw and families; many members of the Donald Gordon family; and several nieces and nephews.
June was predeceased by her parents; two husbands; daughter-in-law, Jane Keast; brothers, Harold Budden, Jack Budden, and Alan Budden; sister, Jeanne Moe; and nephew Ron Budden.
Funeral Service were Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Tiffany Funeral Home, Lansing, with Rev. Steve Ezop officiating. Burial was next to her first husband, Harry Keast, in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing.
In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, June had requested that those wishing to honor her life attend a church service of their choosing, sing hymns and read scripture. June’s family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Bay Bluffs for loving and providing a comfortable home for June the past 1-1/2 years. “There are other worlds to sing in.?/p>
The family is being served by Tiffany Funeral Home.
