These people were considered wealthy being owners of a large tract of land and slaves. Her father remarried but she remained with her aunt. Her father served in the Civil War and she remembered in great detail the hardships of their family after the was had ended. She married at age sixteen and her aunt and uncle, whom she called Ma and Pa, gave her a home and section of land. She and her husband and gave each of their three children 160 acres of land when they married. After her husband's death, she sold her farm and moved to Omaha, Texas where she cared for her aged father until his death in 1915. Her daughter-in-law, Willie B. Stringfellow, died and she later moved into the home of her son, Richard Bennett and cared for his children the remainder of her life. She was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Morris County, Texas."
