Individual Details

Milton S. Coffey

(21 Jul 1821 - 15 Mar 1915)

From " Stafford Stringfellow Story", by Charlotte Stafford, 1975. "He was 94 when he died and is remembered by many of his great grandchildren as being the greatest story teller. Having served in the Civil War, he enchanted the children with war tales as well as wild stories about slaves, which his family owned prior to the Civil War. He lived with his daughter, Margaret Ellen, for many years and died at her home after she moved to Omaha. The cane in the photograph had a deer foot as a handle, it always seemed a part of him. He is buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Morris county, Texas."

He is also the one on whom Buster played the chicken shit joke; and he was known for trying to catch kids with his cane as they ran past his chair on the porch.
