Austin has this on the family: "Elisha Paine b. prob. Eastham, perh.10 Mar 1658 if the birth record of "Eliezer" in fact refers to thisson; d. Canterbyury CT 7 Feb 1735/6.
He m. Eastham 20 Jan 1685 REBECCA DOANE, b Eastham 12 May 1668; d.Canterbury 19 Dec 1758 "very aged"; dau. of John and Hannah (Bangs)Doane.
Son Elisha was mentioned in the 1705 will of Thomas Paine. This coupleres. at Eastham; at Barnstable in 1689; back to Eastham and then ca.1700 at Canterbury CT. Elisha Paine was a founder of the CanterburyChurch 13 Jun 1711. Either he or son Elisha was called of Canterburywhen testifying 28 March 1717 in litigation over a quilted saddle.
The will of Elisha Pain of Canterbury, dated 12 Jan. 1729/30 andproved 17 Feb. 1735/6, mentioned wife (unnamed), "four sons and sixdaughters," youngest son John (executor), eldest son Abraham(executor), sons Elisha (executor) and Solomon (executor), four daus.Abigall, Rebeccah, Mary and Dorcas, who had their settlements bydeeds; dau. Hanah Pain, youngest dau. Contance Pain and dau. RebeccahCleveland. A witness was Joshua Pain. The will was presented forprobate by Abraham Paine to John Paine. The inventory of 19 Feb.1735/6 by Joshua Pain and Deliverance Prown [sic] included notes andbonds of David Adams Jr., dated 14 Jan. 1735/6; Joshua Pain, dated 2May 1729, and John Pain, dated 9 Aug. 1734.
Administration of the estate of Mrs. Rebeckah Pain of Canterbury wasgranted 13 Feb. 1759 to Mr. Elisha Pain of Canterbury."
