Austin has this: "Mary Snow b. prob. PLymouth ca. 1630; d. suddenly"about the dawning of the day" at Eastham 28 Apr 1704, according tojournal of her son John Paine.
She m. bef. April of 1651 THOMAS PAINE, who d. Eastham 16 Aug. 1706,"aged", the year erroneously given as 1707 in his son's journal. He isbelieved to be the son of
Thomas Paine who settled at Yarmouth in 1639. Nicholas Snow mentioned"son Thomas Paine" [i.e. son-in-law] in his will of 14 Nov 1676.
Thomas Paine is said to have come to New England at the age of ten andto have lost the sight of an eye by an arrow. He was resident atEastham in 1653 and made a freeman of Plymouth Colony 1 June 1658. Heand Giles Hopkins [no. 3] served as surveyors of highways for Easthamin 1662. On 5 June 1671 Thomas was named water bailiff of PlymouthColony and served many years in that post, requiring him to regulatefishing at Cape Cod. On 8 June 1664 he was named deputy to thePlymouth Colony Court and served several times through 1690. He alsoserved Eastham as treasurer, clerk and selectman. In 1696 herepresented that town at the General Court and on 14 March of thatyear purchased a home in Boston. He presumably res. there until hesold the same on 13 Oct 1697 and moved back to Eastham. He was acooper and builder of mills.
The will of Thomas Paine, dated 12 May 1705 and proved 2 Oct 1706,left mills, house and housing and specified lands to son NicholasPaine; ten shillings to dau. Mary, wife of Israel Cole; and theresiduary estate equally to Saml Paine (executor), Thomas Paine(executor), Elisha Paine, John Paine, Nicholas Paine, James Paine,Joseph Paine, Dorcas Vickerie (wife of Benjamin), and three eldestchildren of dau. Mary (wife of Israel Cole), viz. James Rogers, MaryCole and Abigail Yeats."
