"Ray J. McDowell, 59, died early Monday morning at his home, 1626 S.Main St., of a heart disorder. While the heart condition had existed for five years, he had never been bedfast and death was sudden and unexpected.
Mr. McDowell was born March 18, 1893 in Miami County, the son of Mr.and Mrs. John McDowell, both deceased. He had lived in Kokomo 35 years, coming here from Miami County where he taught school five years. Here he was employed by the Public Service Company as a refrigerator service man and construction electrician until his health failed.
He was a member of the Main Street Christian Church.
Surviving are the widow, who was Miss Caddie Wilson of Bunker Hill before their marriage in 1914, and four children, Mrs. Pauline Berry, Mrs. Peggy Trader and Victor McDowell, all of this city and Wilson McDowell, Benton Harbor, Mich. There are 13 grandchildren.
He leaves also two brothers and three sisters, Harry and Paul McDowell, Mrs. Mary Britton and Mrs. Martha Young, all of Peru and Mrs. Ruth Widner of Onward, with several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fenn Funeral Home with the Rev. Jo M. Riley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Tuesday." Copy in file.
