Phyllis Jean Tinsley
March 6, 1920 - December 11, 2008 Phyllis Jean Tinsley, 88, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Hospice & Palliative Care Center in Grand Junction. Phyllis was born March 6, 1920 at Irwin, IA to parents, Herbert Kern and Francis Elane McDowell. She spent her young years in Iowa prior to moving to Brandon, CO where she obtained her schooling. She married Beuford Delmont Tinsley on March 14, 1939 at Lamar, CO. The family farmed in the Sheridan Lake area of Kiowa County, CO prior to moving to Olathe, where they farmed for several years before moving to Delta. She, her husband, Beuford, and son, Steven moved to Eagle for several years, where they managed the movie theaters in Eagle and Minturn. They returned to Grand Junction in 1974 where she resided until her death. While a resident of Grand Junction, she managed an apartment complex and worked in the lunch room at Nisley Elementary School and at St. Mary's. She was a member of Orchard Avenue Community Church. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Weldon McDowell. She is survived by a sister, Elaine Copeland of Denver; daughters, Carolyn (Kay Don) Thompson; Linda (Mike) Mylar of Grand Junction; Sheryl (Thomas) Duncan of Denver; a son, Steven Jon Tinsley of Grand Junction; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Burial will follow in Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, PO Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
