SURPRISE BIRTHDAY DINNER FOR MRS. L. E. NEWTON
A number of friends and relatives of Mrs. L. E. Newton tendered theold lady a fine surprise at her home on Monroe Street today at noon,the occasion being the 73rd birthday of Mrs. Newton.
A fine dinner was spread and all enjoyed themselves hugely. Thosepresent were: Mrs. Susie Powell, a sister, who is aged 86, herchildren, Mrs. George Wilburn, Mrs. Walter Jacobs, Mrs. Ed White, Mrs.M. G. Hendrickson and two grandchildren, Mrs. Earl Rogers and Mrs.Harry Rakard. The two children of Mrs. Rakard were present, they beinghte great-grandchildren of Mrs. Newton.
Mrs. Newton is in good health; everything considered and had made herhome in Williamson County all her life, having been reared nearJohnston City. The fine old lady is connected with some of the bestfamilies in this section, being a Hunter before her marriage andrelated to Col. Sam L. Hunter, I. N. G.
The Miner joins the many friends of Mrs. Newton in wishing her everygood health in the many years she is yet to be eith us on this earth.

Dated in ink as Nov 26, 1956. Newspaper unknown but probably Marion
Henry Newton, 62, of Johnston City Died Early Today
Henry Newton, 62, native of Williamson County was found dead in bedearly
today at his home, 509 West Tenth Street, Johnston City.
He had been ill for several months. Newton had lived all his life inthe
Johnston City community.
Surviving are five sisters. Mrs. Ora Wilburn, Mrs. Leona White, Mrs.Lula
Jacobs and Mrs. Elsie Holloway of Johnston City, and Mrs. GertieMiller of
Evansville Ind.; Three brothers Loren and Lebnon Newton of JohnstonCity
and J.O. Newton of DuQuoin.
The body will line in state after 5 pm Tuesday at the Murman-Wilsonfuneral
home in Johnston City, where funeral rites will be conducted at 2 pm
Wednesday. Rev. R.R. Warner, pastor of the First Methodist Church at
Johnston City, will officiate. Burial will be in new Rose HillCemetery at
Marion.
