"Jame [sic] Dixon Died at his Home Here Wednesday Morning
Died, at his home in springfield, at one o'clock a.m., April 28th,1909, Mr. Lawrence [sic] Dixon after a five months illness. Aged 69years, two months and eight days.
Mr. Dixon was born in Pike county Missouri, Feb. 19, 1840, his parentsdied while he was quite small, leaving him to grow up among friendsand relatives. When the civil war broke out, Mr. Dixon enlisted in theThird Missouri Cavalry, March 1, 1962.
On Nov. 29, 1862, Mr. Dixon united in marriage with Miss HarrietHaloway. To them were born four daughters three of whom are stillliving, viz., Mrs. Mary Scott of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Tempy Painter,Burkshire, Ill., and Mrs. Hariet Leith of Springfield, Ore.
While the children were yet young, Mr. Dixon married Miss Nancy JaneElliott, August 27, 1869. To them were born five children, threegirls, Mrs. Emma Riley of Oklahoma and Miss Hattie Dixon ofSpringfield, Oregon; three boys, Marshal, Carson and Fred fSpringfield, Ore. Besides the children, Mr. Dixon leaves a wife, whoresides in Springfield, Ore.
In 1879 Mr. Dixon was converted and united with Mount Zion church. In1906, he was ordained as minister in the Baptist church at Caddocounty, Oklahoma. No one ever questioned his splendid Christianintegrity for a moment - he always living and holding up to his familythe high ideal of Christian citizenship.
In November, 1908, Mr. Dixon was taken sick and went to the hospitalin Santa Fe, N.M., and after regaining his health sufficiently totravel he came to Springfield, Oregon. Since his arrival he has hadthe best care, spending some five or six weeks in the Good SamaritanHospital at Portland, but to no avail.
Tho aware that he could live but a few weeks, he was of cheerful moodand attended to all matters and arrangements that he might be preparedwhen the end should come.
Mr. Dixon was a member of Hydro I.O.O.F. lodge No. 174 and CaddoRebekah Lodge No. 142, Oklahoma. The funeral services were under thelocal lodges of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, the serman being preached atthe M. E. church by the pastor N. J. Harbit, Thursday April 29, 1909,at 2 o'clock and interment in I.O.O.F. cemetery."

This may be the right James in the 1860 census.
