Individual Details
David Pugh Jr.
(1741 - 14 Mar 1811)
David Pugh 1741-1811 was tenant farmer on the Skreen Farm in Wales from about 1784 to his death in 1811. The Farm was owned by a well to do Williams family that lived in the mansion house (see media file for picture) and they owned a large estate handed down from the 1500's.
David married Mary Williams in 1765 at Llandefalle Baeconshire Wales. It appears they first lived near Telgarth, a very old market town. It is not known if Mary is related to the well to do Williams that owned the Skreen farm and their estate of Velinnewydd. However, Her father, John Williams of Gelly-Hir was not poor when he died in 1779 leaving 294 pounds money (about $2.64 million in today's cash) as well as an estate of house and land.
Most of David and Mary's children appear to have been baptized at Tredustan Independent Church Chapel in Talgarth, Breconshire, Wales (Picture of the ruins of the Chapel taken in 2015).
There are hints that David's father was also named David as he is listed as David Pugh, Junior in the listings of the baptism of several of the children.
David's will (published in 1811) is available on line at Wales national Library.
There is also some questions on the Radnor version of who were the children of David Pugh 1741. For example, the Radnor version lists Hannah Pugh w/o John Phillips as a d/o David 1741 therefore would be sister of David 1769. John and Hannah Pugh/ Phillips are recorded in Radnor Twp so no question there but David Pugh 1741 and wife Mary seems to have been very strict about baptizing their children (recorded at the Tredustan/Talgarth church) and Hannah (child of David Pugh Junior) is not recorded. Mary Pugh/Penry (w/o David Penry Sr) in Radnor Ohio is recorded in church registry along with John, David, Isabella, William, Anne and Thomas. There is a Thomas of the correct age in the Radnor Cemetery that lived north of Radnor and is likely to be the son of David (1741-1810).
