Individual Details
John Nicolas Shafer
(Bef 1709 - )
John Nicholas Shafer is the focus of much confusion. On page 786 Williams listed 7 children including 4 sons for John, but on page 884 Williams listed only one son for a John Shafer. John Nicholas and John both had a son John who married the same wives. I cannot locate the error.
In addition, Williams listed different fathers for John Nicholas and John. Michael was the name given on page 786, but Alexander was the name cited on page 884. Furthermore, Michael was said to have come to Pennsylvania in 1710 aboard the ship "Robert and Alice," while Alexander came in 1732 and was born in 1711. Both emigrated from the Palatinate, Germany.
The Shafer name was orginally spelled "Schaeffer" in Germany.
