The first Shafer to come to America may have been Michael Shafer who came Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1710 aboard the "Robert and Alice," or Alexander Shafer came to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1732. Alexander bought 1200 acres and founded the town of Shaferstown in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. Both Michael and Alexander had sons named "John."
