John John Shafer came to Washington County, Maryland in 1772 from Pennsylvania. He settled on Antitem Creek southeast of Hagerstown. John built the Roxbury Mill, farmed and ran a distillery. He was a member of the Reformed Church.

Death

Williams mentioned that John Shafer, the one who built Roxbury Mill, died at age 97. While there is confusion on who all the John Shafers are, on page 786 and 884 there is reference to the John who built the Roxbury Mill. I have combined the information on these two.
