(Peggy Hawkinson, 1995)

Elmer was born at home, which was Butte Creek, Montana. The family moved to
Jordan, Montana in 1933, where he lived until 1946. In Jordan he worked for
the newspaper setting type and also delivered the newspaper. When he was old
enough to get a drivers license he and Harold helped drive truck for their
dad hauling everything from sheep to wheat. In 1946 his dad purchased a farm
in Cartersville, Montana. They raised sugar beets, hay, grain and cattle.
After graduating from Rosebud High School in 1948 he continued to work on the
farm until January of 1950 when he entered the U.S. Navy, spending three years
on the USS Valley Forge and USS Yorktown. After the service he went back to
farming for his dad, purchasing the home place in 1967. In 1952 he married
Peggy Ferguson. They have lived and farmed on the same land ever since. He
retired in 1995 but still has the cattle and lives on the farm. In 1975 we
purchased the Blue Spruce Cafe in Forsyth and later purchased the old Sawyer
building in Forsyth and remodeled it into the new Blue Spruce Cafe, which we
just sold in February of 1995. Elmer's interests and hobbies are his
grandkids, camping, fishing, gardening, and working in the shop.

A double ring ceremony united in marriage Peggy Ann Ferguson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ferguson of Rosebud, and Elmer Hawkinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hawkinson, also of Rosebud, in the Federated Church on July 19. The Rev. Owen Arrington officiated before an alter banked with baskets of pink gladioli. Mrs. Margaret Wallin sang "I Love You Truly" and "At Dawning", accompanied by Mrs. Jack Mees at the organ.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was giwned un white satin, fashioned with long pointed sleeves, and a fitted bodice. A panel of imported lace extended from shoulder to hem, and the full skirt lengthened into a long train. Her finger tip veil was held by a cap edged with pearls and she carried a fan shaped bouquet of pink roses. She wore a pearl necklace, gift of the groom.
Mrs. Leo Johnson, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and wore a floor length dress of mint green and carried a colonial bouquet of yellow roses. Attending the groom was his brother, Harold Hawkinson and ushers were Wilbur Morton and Ray Batey. Mrs. Ferguson chose for her daughter's wedding a brown dress, while Mrs. Hawkinson, mother of the groom, was attired in a blue suit. Both ladies used white accessories, and wore corsages of pink glamelias.
Elmer grew up in the Brusett region and attended school in Jordan. Both bride and groom are graduates of Rosebud. At present the groom is attached to the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Valley Force, recently from Korea, and after the wedding trip east returned to San Francisco, Cal.
Elmers many friends in Jordan and Brusett wish him and his bride much happiness.
