BIRTH-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-PARENTS: FGS prepared by Caroline Ashcraft; 1935-1995;

I was born in Jordan, Montana in 1935. Our family, consisting of my mother and
father and older brother, Chester, moved to the Harris, Minnesota area when I
was very young. Art and Dorothy were both born while we were living there.
We moved back to Jordan in time for me to enter school there. An early hobby
was collecting match book covers and I have always enjoyed dancing.
I lived in or near Jordan until my marriage to Charles Schweers in 1952.
Charles and I moved to Texas. We first lived on Military Drive in San Antonio
with Charles' parents, later buying our own home on Sharmain Place on San
Antonio's south side.
Alta was born in 1953 and Janine in 1954. While Charles attended Trinity
College, I worked as a cashier at Fedmart before going to Sears in 1960.
Charles graduated from Trinity in 1963 and opened Charlie's Auto Parts on S.W.
W.W. White Road on San Antonio's east side. We sold the house on Sharmain and
built a new home on the east side in 1968. We were separated and divorced in
1971.
In 1972, David Ashcraft and I were married in Milbank, South Dakota. We
sold the house on Knotty Oak Trail in 1973 and tried moving to Wisconsin but
returned within a few months--- once a Texan, always a Texan--- guess it gets
in your blood.
(Caroline Ashcraft, 1973)
Reminiscence (July 2004):
Caroline had travelled alone to Harris by train. When the train arrived in Harris she got off and began walking to Belle's, only she was walking the wrong direction. A neighbor saw her, asked who she was and where she was going. She told him and he called Belle and Enoch who came to get her. She said they were glad they got her before she had walked as far at the old barn with the scarecrow. She has pictures from Willie's funeral. She recalled that she had been roller skating with Karin when they came to get them and told them Willie had died. This would have been in 1948 when Caroline was 12.
