Funeral services for Gerhard E. Schmidt, 86, were held Friday, Nov. 1, 1996 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Duane Ferguson officiated at the services.
Gerhard E. Schmidt of Monticello died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1996 at the Senior Home, Monticello, following an extended illness.
Gerhard E. Schmidt was born Dec. 11, 1909 in Lovell Township, Jones County, Iowa, the son of John and Wilhemina Eiben Schmidt. He received his education in the Wyoming and Monticello schools. He worked in the CCC Camp at Fort Dodge. He married Mary Clark in 1940. She died Sept. 25,1947.
Gerhard E. Schmidt and Maxine Tracey were married Oct. 20, 1956 at Maquoketa. The couple made their home in Monticello where he worked for Franklin Equipment Company. He retired from Franklin in 1975 after 35 years. He was a member of the AFL. CIO.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine; two sons, Richard of Cedar Rapids and Kevin of Coralville; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, JoAnn Griffith of Washington, Ind., and Berniece Green, Dewar. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three children, James, Mary Louise and Marion, two sisters and two brothers.
