JOHN CARL SCHMIDTMONTICELLO--John C. Schmidt, 79, former resident of Monticello died at the Bolt Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids Sunday, May 23, following an illness of several months. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Funeral services were held from Goettsch Funeral home in Monticello Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. John Benj. Wild officiating. Burial was at Oakwood cemetery.
Born July 17, 1885 in Wyoming, he was the son of John and Sophia Schmidt. He farmed In Jones county a number of years after his marriage to Wilhelmine Eiben of Monticello on Aug. 20, 1907 and moved to Monticello in 1917. For the past 12 years he has lived in Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 25, 1945 and a daughter Sophia and an infant daughter, his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Survivors Include six children: Gerhard Schmidt and Mrs. Robert (Eloise) Wilcox, Monticello; Lawrence Schmidt, Seattle, Wash.; LaVern Schmidt, San Bernadino, Calif.; Mrs. Richard (Joanne) Griffith, South Lyon, Mich.; Mrs. Oscar Green, Waterloo.
Twenty-nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers include Richard Schmidt, Clayton Adamson, Marlon Himes, Harold Eiben, Elmer Brokaw and John Coyle.
