Henry E. Folkers, a well known resident of Castle Grove, died at McDonald hospital in Monticello, March 13 at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 1day. He began to fail two months ago, and was taken to the hospital for care two weeks before his death. He was affected with an internal cancer, which was incurable.
Mr. Folkers was born in Wiess, Ostfriesland, Germany, September12,1865. He came with his parents and other members of the family to the United States in 1876. Settlement was made in Wayne Township this county. He was baptized in early childhood, and confirmed in the Lutheran church by Rev. C. Mardorf of Zion's church in Wayne, April 10,1881.
He was married December 8, 1892 to Miss Anna Ahlrichs, who died in 1895, leaving one child, Mary. His sister Katherine kept house for him, and cared for his child. In 1907, the sister died. In 1913, the daughter Mary was married to Henry C. Eiben.
Mr. Folkers is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Mary C. Kopp of Blue Springs, Nebraska and her three children, Raymond H. Eiben, Clarence C. Eiben and Anna M. Eiben, the sons and daughter of Mrs. Kopp's first husband who died several years ago, one sister, Mrs. John Lubben of Cass and three brothers, Gerd, Thomas and John also of Cass township.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. Wolf, at the Lutheran church of Castle Grove, last Sunday morning, and interment was made in the Prairie Hill cemetery. The pallbearers were George H. Moenk, John Husman, Louis Stadtmueller, John Specht, Gerret Siebels and E.L. Krominga.
Mr. Folkers was a hardworking, honest and industrious man who had the esteem of his neighbors, and the confidence of those with whom he did business. The pastor voiced the sentiments of the community when he said: We, all here present, together with these mourning relatives, view with sorrow and regret the passing of a father, brother, neighbor and friend.
