Robert Lee Barfield was the fourth child (second son) of Mary Jane Hughes and John Barfield, born in August 1873. He was from a family of six sons and four daughters. Robert Barfield's mother Mary died in 1933, being then eighty-five years of age. Most of her sons and daughters had preceeded her in death. One of the remaining son, according to Betty Hughes, was living in Houston, Texas, at the beginning of 1943. This was (Robert?) Lee Barfield.
