Maria Rosa "Rose" Breuer

Many pictures of Rose are in the family album, along with who we think is her husband, John Milan. Many of these pictures were taken in Hastings, Minnesota. (Dakota Co., Hastings in the County Seat)
One is of her friend Nellie Pringle-Clagett, taken Oct 1884.

Irene Weber stayed with Aunt Rose while she taught in Bakersfield, early 1900's. Rose was very active in social affairs. She is often mentioned as holding positions in woman's groups or as a judge or clerk in Bakersfield Precinct 5 etc, not related here, in The Bakersfield Californian or Bakersfield Morning Echo.

Entertains Friends.
Mrs. J. F. Milan was hostess this week to a few of her friends at her home on Tulare street. The afternoon was passed with guessing contests and music, the rooms being prettily decorated in violets and ferns. Late in the afternoon Mrs. Milan served a light luncheon, covers being laid for eight, including Mrs. J. Marion Thomas, Mrs. Pierson, Mrs. Cliff Williams, Mrs. Alfred Karpe, Mrs. Mongerson, Mrs. Ergo E. Johnson, Miss Irene Weber and the hostess Mrs. Milan.

Mrs. J. F. Milan was a recent hostess at an informal party at her home at 1211 Tulare street. Music and games made the time pass pleasantly. Mrs. J. Marion Thomas winning the prize in the games. Pretty decorations of violets and marigolds were seen about the house, and a three course luncheon was served at the close of the afternoon. Mrs. Milan's guests included Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Morris, Mrs. C. W. Williams, Mrs. Arthur Karpe, Mrs. W. R. Mongerson, Mrs. E. E. Johnson and Miss Irene Weber.

Entertain This Evening.
Mr. and Mrs. John F Milan will entertain a few friends this evening at their home on Tulare street. Tables will be places for cards. "five hundred" being the game this evening. Mrs. Milan will serve a light luncheon late in the evening, Pink and white carnations forming a large centerpiece at the luncheon table, where covers will be laid for Mr. and Mrs. Morris A. Spier, Mr. and Mrs. P. Y. Freeman, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Mongerson, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Bernadas, Miss Irene Weber, and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Milan.

Mr. and Mrs. John F. Milan entertained a few friends last night at a card party at their home at 1211 Tulare street, the game of five hundred being enjoyed. Pink and white hyacinths made the living room beautiful and the dining room was prettily decorated with carnations of the same colors, where a dainty supper was served at the close of the game. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Bernardas, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Mongerson, Mr. and Mrs. P. Y. Freeman, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Morris A. Milans Entertain.
Mr. and Mrs. John F Milan entertained Saturday night at a delightful "500" card party at their home at 1211 Tulare street. A decorating scheme of pink and white hyacinths was carried out in the living and dining room. Guests invited were: Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Bernadas, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Mongerson, Mr. and Mrs. P. Y. Freeman, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Morris A. Speer, Miss Irene Weber and Errol Claire.

Mrs. John F. Milan and her niece, Miss Irene Weber, will leave on next Friday for Los Angeles, where they will spend the week end with Mr. Milan, who is confined to the Santa Fe hospital there. They will return to Bakersfield on Monday morning.
