Kendall Wallace Lovejoy

(24 Jul 1928 - 19 Feb 1992)

Cousin Betty Brown Gunderson recalls that "Ken was just younger than me but in the same grade because he was so smart and Marjorie who was just a little older than me.
I think maybe Ken started in the 2nd or 3rd grade. I skipped the second as the 1st and 2nd were together so being as nosey as I am I listened to what the 2nd was doing. "Ha"! I always had to compete with Ken who always came in 1st on tests and another girl Aurella Begley who was 2nd and I always was 3rd."

Festival tinged with gloom [pg 1]
Festival
...
Capturing the theme for the annual Fishermen's Festival, live bands rode in boats during the parade.
The one that included a piano, played by skipper Ken Lovejoy, jazzed the judges and took the top award. Lovejoy's "Pallas Athena" was the Sweepstakes award winner and also was voted the boat that best followed the theme.
Lovejoy was the leader of a five-piece Dixieland Band that floated by the judges with --- compliments of the sponsoring Index Printing Co. --- giant replicas of jazz instruments hanging from the mast and lines.
And while the "Athena" and other boats blared New Orleans-style music, other boats carried "Mardi Gras"-style dancers, poker games, party favors and even Bourbon Street buildings.
