-- MERGED NOTE ------------

Mr. Outlaw included this information about Thomas Garrason as if he were a son of Ephraim Garrason, which see for reasons this Thomas was brother, not son, of Ephraim.
Thomas Garrison, lived and died in Duplin County, North Carolina. He was born 26 July 1764, and died 10 Jun 1841. His wife Lavina Brock, daughter of Mary Ann (Brosard) and Barnet Brock. She was born 28 Aug 1774, and died 3 January 1840. They were married 19 Dec 1793, and their children were as follows:
Ephraim Garrison, married Margaret Carr, daughter of William Carr and their children were Lucy Ann, married John Carr Mallard, son of Barbara (Carr) and John Mallard; Mary Jane, married Gabriel Boney, son of Dorothy (James) and William Boney; and Margaret Isabella.
Darius Garrison, living in Telfair County, Georgia, in 1842.
Elizabeth Garrison, married Amos Kirkpatrick. [Kilpatrick?]
Mary Ann Garrison, married Merrell Williams, living in Lee County, Georgia, in 1842.
David B. Garrison, died at twenty-four years of age.
James Garrison, married Mary Catherine Williams, lived in New Hanover County, N. C.
Penelope N. Garrison, married James Williams and their children were: Brosard, killed in Civil War; Mary Ann, married George Rhodes; Catherine, married James Rhodes; Margaret, married Needham M. Brown; Elizabeth, married Jesse Speight and moved to Arkansas; Priscilla, married John Bradshaw and moved to Arkansas; James, married Julia Albertson; David J., married Mrs. Cordelia (Hussey) Whitehead and Myrtle Smith.
Sarah Garrison, married William Bostic, and died thirteen months after the marriage.
Thomas Garrison, Jr. died at sixteen years of age.
Catherine Garrison, married John Dobson and their children were: Hezekiah Dobson, married and reared two sons, John Richard and Thomas Morgan Dobson; John wardell Dobson, killed in Civil War; Thomas Garrison Dobson, married Dolly Williams and left a large family; Lavina Dobson, married James Thomas Carrell, and left a large family; Penelope Catherine Dobson, married Calvin Bradshaw and left a large family; William Perry Dobson, married Mary Hollingsworth and left a large family.

Thomas Garrason was born 26 Jul 1764 perhaps in Duplin Co, NC. Thomas died in Duplin Co 10 Jun 1841. He was married 19 Dec 1793 to Lavina Brock. If the marriage occurred in Duplin Co it was not recorded. Lavina was born 28 Aug 1774, place unknown, and died in Duplin Co 3 Jan 1840. Her parents, Barnet Brock and Mary Ann Brosard, were of Huguenot descent.
It would be easy to write that Thomas lived his entire life in Duplin County, but that would not be correct. His household is missing from the census of 1820. That is not surprising because census enumerators were often careless in their work. When this writer attempted to copy and identify every Garr*son from all the Georgia censuses he came upon a Thomas Garrason (age 26-45) with one female (age 45 or over) in his home in Wilkinson County, Georgia [p 207 of that census]. He could not be identified as being of any of the Georgia families. The location, Wilkinson County, was a clue. That is the county where Thomas' nephews David Garrason (b. c1789) and Thomas Garrason (b c1790), sons of Ephraim Garrason, had settled and where the younger Thomas had died in 1814. Click here to read about them. Obviously, Thomas had moved there shortly after 1810, and may have taken all his children with him. The oldest, Ephraim, was about 16 in 1810, Darius (who may have remained in Georgia when Thomas returned to NC) was about 15. Thomas and Lavina had 9 children.
1 Ephraim Garrason (b Duplin Co c1794; d there by 1829) m Margaret Carr (b 2 Sep 1793; d 2 Jun 1844) d/o Wm Carr. She was bur at Rockfish Presbyterian Church. Her marker is one of the few very old Garrason markers in the county. This Ephraim was definitely Thomas' son; he was not the unborn child mentioned in the 1792 will of Thomas' brother Ephraim. It is easy to prove that. [1] Ephraim's will left a 50 acre tract to his daughter Mary, except if his widow's unborn child was male he was to be named Ephraim and he was to receive that 50 acres instead of Mary. However, in 1816 Mary sold that acreage to Thomas Garrason (b. 1764), an act that proved she had not been displaced by a posthumous brother. [2] In 1829 the orphaned daughters of this younger Ephraim received and divided his share of the estate of his deceased brother David B. Garrason. That proves they were nieces of David and granddaughters of Thomas (b. 1764). Children:
1 Mary Jane Garrason (b c1822 Duplin Co; d there prob between 1850 & 1860) m c1838 Gabriel Boney (b 1813 Duplin Co; d aft 1860), s/o William Boney and Dorothy James. 4 Lillie A. Boney (b Duplin Co - Oct 1877)
5 L- E. Boney (b Duplin Co - Oct 1880), a son whose name looked like Lessile but perhaps was Leslie.
6 Augustus Boney (b Duplin Co - Apr 1883)
- Ellen had 2 children who died before 1900. Both that census and the
- one of 1910 report she had 8 children of whom 6 were still living.

5 George [D. or L.] Boney (b Duplin Co - Sep 1880) age in 1910 suggests YOB was 1884. He m c1908 Alma -- (b NC c1888). No children by 1910.
6 Jimmie/Jennie R. Boney (b Duplin Co - Mar 1884) a daughter
7 Clara Boney (b Duplin Co - Apr 1887)

2 Lucy Ann Garrason (b Duplin Co c1823; d aft 1870) m by 1840 John Carr Mallard (b NC c1813; d aft 1870) s/o John Mallard and Barbara Carr. Children:

One of hers must not be listed because Nellie's YOB suggests Susan was not her mother. Living with Ephraim's family in 1900 were his sister barbara and his sister-in-law Effie J. Carr (age 23). Ephraim's children:
1 Nellie Mallard (b SC - Nov 1882)
2 Ephraim Mallard (b SC - Jun 1887)
3 James P. Mallard (b SC - Mar 1890)
4 Raymond Mallard (b SC - Apr 1891)
5 John -- Mallard (b SC - Jul 1898) middle name difficult to read, perhaps Truman or Thurman.
- This line represents Susan's unlisted child that was still living in 1900.
- These two lines represent Susan's
- two children who died before 1900.

4 John Mallard (twin, b Duplin Co 1850). [In 1900 in Catawba Twp, York Co, SC there lived a John Mallard (b NC - Apr 1850) with wife Cecilie (b NC - Mar 1860) and son John B. (b SC - Jun 1895). At the present time this writer has no way to determine if he was Lucy's son John.]
5 James Mallard (twin, b Duplin Co1850).
6 William S. Mallard (b Duplin Co c1855).

3 Mary Isabelle Garrason (b Duplin Co by 1829). Only record of her was that of her sharing in her late father's share of his late brother David B. Garrason's estate.

2 Darius Garrison - his name so spelled because his descendants have consistently used it - (b Duplin Co, NC c1795; d Telfair Co aft 1860) m Telfair Co, GA 16 Sep 1824 to Sarah Harrell (b NC 1808/9; d Telfair Co aft 1870) d/o William Harrell and Mary Catherine Bass. He is not to be confused with his supposed uncle, Darius Garrason (c1772-1838). This writer has info in his files to prepare a detailed list of their descendants but will not do that here. Children from the census:
1 John Garrison (b Telfair Co c1826)
2 Lavenia Garrison (b Telfair Co c1829) m -- Studstill.
3 William Garrison (b Telfair Co c1830)

9 Darius Garrison, Jr. (b Telfair Co c1847)
- In the 1860 census there was a 5-yr old Margaret Garrison listed in the household. Likely she was a granddaughter?

3 Elizabeth Garrason (b Duplin Co c1797; d there aft Feb 1829 but bef census of 1830) m by 1818 Amos Kilpatrick (b NC c1795; d aft 1870). He recieved, in her right, a share of the estate of her deceased brother, David B. Garrason, in 1829. The 1830 census did not count an adult white female in his household. Children:
1 -- Kilpatrick (b Duplin Co c1819), a male, aged 10-14 in 1830 census,

They were listed in the 1820 Census of Duplin Co [p 18] and in the Crawford Co, GA Census of 1830, next in the listing to her cousin David Garrason (s/o Ephraim) [p ]. They haven't been found in the 1840 census, but A. T. Outlaw's paper said they were in Lee now Terrell County in 1842. She was listed there in 1850 as head-of-household. Children from censuses:
1 -- Williams (b c1822), a daughter.
2 -- Williams (b c1824), a daughter.

5 David B. Williams (b GA c1832; d aft 1860) farm laborer, classified an idiot in census; lived with mother in 1850, with brother Merrill T. in 1860.
6 Merrill T. Williams (b GA c1837) possibly m Mary E. -- (b NC c1840). Living with him in 1860 were his brother David, Mary E. and two Stanleys: Eliza (13) and Thomas (9) both born GA.

5 David B. Garrason (b Duplin Co surely 1804 because he was 24 when he died shortly before the Feb, 1829 term of court in Duplin). He left no wife or children, and no will, so his siblings or, if deceased, their children were the heirs to his 530 acres of land. The property was divided into eight shares: [1] Uriah (undoubtedly Darius) Garrason, [2] Amos Kilpatrick husband of Elizabeth Garrason, [3] Merrill Williams husband of Mary Ann Garrason, [4] James Garrason, [5] James Williams husband of Penelope N. Garrason, [6] Catherine Garrason (later to marry John Dobson), [7] the heirs of Ephraim Garrason deceased, and [8] the heirs of Sarah (Garrason) Bostwick.
6 James Garrason (b Duplin Co c1805; d aft 1853 prob New Hanover Co, NC) m1 Mary Catherine Williams (b c1808; d Kenansville, NC 10 Aug 1850), ill, she was enroute to Warren County to obtain some "healing water". In 1900 Mary Ann was living in household headed by inmarried son Iley and including daughters Dolly and Penny. Census of 1900 reports she had 6 children or whom 5 were living. The 1860/70 censuses listed 8 children (unless some were her husband's nieces and/or nephews):

In 1900, with his name spelled "Ila", he was unmarried head of a household that included his mother and sisters Dolly and Penny. He had been m less than a year when the 1910 census was taken. 8 Sarah Garrason (b Duplin Co c1808; d there by 1829) m probably by 1827 William Bostic (or Bostwick in some records). She apparently had at least one child about whom nothing is known. Sarah's heirs (perhaps "heir" was more accurate) received her part of the estate of her deceased brother, David B. Garrason, in 1829.
- Child (or children) of Sarah who inherited her share of David's estate.

9 Thomas Garrason, perhaps never called "Jr." (b Duplin Co, NC or perhaps Wilkinson Co, GA by 1812; d Duplin Co at age 16). He did not share in the estate of his brother, David B. Garrason, who died by Feb 1829, so Thomas must have died before that date. Click to read about a Wilkinson County, GA residence for this family.
10 Catherine Garrason (b perhaps Wilkinson Co, GA - Jun 1813; d Duplin Co, NC aft 1900 ). See Wilkinson Co link above. Both the 1880 & 1900 censuses report she was b in NC, but it is rare to find any birthplace not given as NC. She m by 17 Aug 1833 (when her father made a deed of gift to her and her hb) to John Dobson (b NC 1805; d aft 1870). In 1880 she lived with son W. P., in 1900 with his widow. Children:
1 Hezekiah Dobson (b Duplin Co c1834) m Margaret -- (b NC c1834). He apparently d before 1880 because in the census of that year his two sons were living with their uncle William Perry Dobson. Children from A. T. Outlaw's sketch:

2 B- Dobson (b Duplin Co - Nov 1893), a son, name was difficult to read in 1900 census, looked like Burnar or Bumar. Apparently died before 1910 as mother reported she had 5 children of whom 4 were living.
