Death
Rock Hill, SC – Shelva Jean Ashley of Indian Land, SC passed away at her residence on June 10, 2025. Born on February 13, 1939, Mrs. Ashley was a native of Pineville, NC. Mrs. Ashley was the daughter of the late Carrie and Boyce Furr of Pineville, NC. She had one sister, the late Peggy Vick of Pineville, NC. She worked for some time in the Indian Land School as a Cafeteria Attendant and she was also a homemaker. She was the wife of the late Russell Edward Ashley. Jean will always be remembered as a warm, loving Christian mother. She cared deeply for all of her family and was very proud of her sons as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the Lord dearly. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Charlotte Avenue in Rock Hill, SC for many years and then later moved to The Gold Hill Rd. Church of Christ in Fort Mill, SC when they broke ground to start a sister congregation. Jean is survived by her 3 sons, Russell Eugene Ashley of Indian Land, Anthony Scott Ashley (Roxanne) of Smyrna, SC and Brian Edward Ashley (Amanda) of Fort Mill, SC. She has 7 grandchildren. Matthew Nivens of Fort Mill, SC, Jennifer Hammitt (Dan) of Conway, Ar., Jeff Stafford of Morganton, NC, Daniel Ashley (Lindsey) of Rock Hill, SC, Taylor Ashley (Will) of Concord, NC, Lexie Bigwood (Matt) of Rock Hill, SC, and Marcus Hill of Smyrna, SC. She also has 5 great grandchildren, Kaylee Gross of Concord, NC., Ashley Hammitt, of Conway, Ar., Conlee Hammitt of Conway, Ar., Stirling Stafford of Morganton, NC and Wesley Hammitt of Conway, AR. Jean's memory will live on through the lives she touched with kindness, faith, unwavering love and generosity. A memorial service will be held by the family to honor and celebrate Jean's life: Saturday, June 28th @2:00PM at Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ, 339 Charlotte Ave. Rock Hill, SC 29730.
