Death
Rodney F. Furr, 69, of 1380 Mary Miles Drive, died Sunday night in the Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health of 10 years. Born July 28, 1923, in Moore County, N.C., he was the son of Nettie Keziah Furr and Allison Weaver Furr. He moved to Danville in 1951 after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a carpenter for P.L. Anderson & Son Company for 30 years until retirement in 1978. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the VFW Ballard Pruitt Post No. 647. He was married to Iris Elaine Hutchens on May 17, 1952. In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Steven P. Furr of Danville and Michael S. Furr of Dry Fork; two sisters, Louise F. McAbee of Kannapolis, N.C. and Carolyn Taylor of Salisbury, N.C.; two brothers, Paul Furr of Kannapolis, N.C. and A.W. Furr of Atlanta; and one grandchild. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Wayne Aaron. The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home and, at other times, will be at the residence.Danville Register and Bee, Danville, Virginia, June 1, 1993
