John Skluzacek, was born in southern Bohemia, in a small town called Dunajovice on June 23, 1837. He was the first child born to Jakub and Anna Mracek Skluzacek, who had a few acres of land that they farmed and supplemented their income with blacksmithing. Eight more children were born in the following years. In October 1859, the family made the decision to sail to America. John remained in Bohemia.
Around 1865, John married Marie Krenikova and they had their first child, Elizabeth. In 1868, they made the trip to America and settled north of New Prague in Helena Township. John’s father, Jakub, who had been living south of New Prague in Wheatland township, moved north of town and lived on a property next to John and his family. John and Marie had seven children and lived in Helena Township their entire lives.
In 1908, Marie passed away from a brain tumor. On November 19, 1913, John passed away.
