Biography
Zachariah Hicks, son of Thomas and Margaret (West) Hicks of Scituate, Massachusetts, was born about 1628/9. [1]
He married, at Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 28, 1652 [2],Elizabeth Sill (Syll/Schell/Scill) who was born about 1637, daughter of John and Joanna Sill [1] and came to New England with her parents between June and December. 1637. [3]
They resided on Brighton Street and his estate extended from Winthrop Street to Mt. Auburn Street. [1]
1663: May 27: Zecheriah Hicks Freeman Massachusetts Bay Colony [4]
1665: February: Zachariah Hicks one of the signers in the Cambridge Book of Records Vol. 112: p. 163, to the General Court[ Record No. 2043] regarding land grants and rights of common lands. [5]
1671: February 20: Boston Constables of Cambridge ordered to send men to serve on the Grand Jury and Jury Trials: Zec. Hicks, freeman, among others, chosen to serve on the Jury Trials. [Early Suffolk Court Files, No. 1084] in: [6]
Zachariah died at Cambridge on August 5, 1702, aged 73. [2] [1] He is buried in the Old Burying Ground, Cambridge. His inscription reads: HERE LYES THE BODY OF ZACHARIAH HICKS WHO DIED AUGST 5TH 1702 IN YE 74TH YEAR OF HIS AGE [7] [8] [9]
His widow Elizabeth died there on September 12, 1730, aged 93. [2][1] She is also buried in the Old Burying Ground, Cambridge. [7][10] [11]
