Anna was said to be the daughter of James Poteet Sr. and Elizabeth Crabtree. James Poteet Sr.'s Ancestors were from Berry, France originally. Berry, a former province until 1790 when it became a region in central France where the family has been located since very early times. The family grew and formed two branches, one of which became extinct in 1715 after the daughter of Charles, Marquis of Rhodes, and Grand Master of the ceremonies of France died. The other branch which Ann's Family came from, were first in Maryland. Her Father James Poteet Sr. was born in Kingston, Baltimore County, Maryland. The French meaning of the surname Poteet is "Goddess".
Elizabeth Crabtree's original ancestor came from Yorkshire County in England said to have lived near a prominent Crabtree. Her direct line came to Baltimore County, Maryland and that is where she was born and later married James Poteet Sr. They were said to have 14 children. Anna was the first girl born to them at the number 6 spot. She was probably spoiled to put it mildly but she turned out to be a very loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother who was very kindhearted. I am proud to call her my 5th Great Maternal Grandmother!!!
Gravesite Details
I am unsure if she has a stone. She is said to be buried near her daughter Mary Polly Morgan Lackey.
